English
English covers a range of areas; talking, reading and writing are all areas of work within English. Students read a range of texts including novels, poetry, plays and non-fiction texts such as advertisements and leaflets. Lessons also study effects created within films and television programmes.
There are many styles of writing used in communication. Within English lessons students write poetry, imaginative descriptions and stories, letters and advertisements.
The department organises many educational visits which involve students from all years within the school. Students have attended the cinema and theatre, have listened to talks given by a range of writers and have joined in debates and discussions with local politicians. Theatre groups have also visited the school to work with students.
